There’s a little illustration, a cartoon if you will, that’s currently making its way around the web. Though there is evidence of its presence on the internet, as far back as October of last year, comedian Kevin Hart made it popular by posting it on his Facebook page. Judging by the reaction to the comic, everyone doesn’t find it so funny.
Take a look and let us know what you think:
You want to know what I think? While I could take offense to the stereotypes the black women in this comic are portraying, I can also say that I chuckled when I first looked at this illustration. You know why? Because all jokes, though occasionally absurd, are usually based off a modicum of truth. And while this scenario has never played out in my personal life;…to the best of my knowledge, I can say I’ve seen it happen. As far back as middle school, I’ve seen it happen. And not just to the “nerdy” dudes either. Boys who were considered “soft” or “too dark” were sometimes openly and harshly rejected by sistas. And you know what? They moved on. Not always washing their hands completely of black women but gravitating towards a woman who wouldn’t put them down. Who can be mad at that?
Sure, not all black men start dating white women because of this and certainly all black women don’t reject men they think are “geeky” but this is one, two framed illustration. It would be foolish to think it could tackle all the sometimes painful dynamics that exist between black women and black men.
What do you think about the comic? Were you offended? Have you ever witnessed a scenario like this?

Even though this is a cartoon, I have seen it happen, not by me because I firmly believe in treating people like I want to be treated and that “brother” is someones son, brother, dad, cousin…I would hate for anyone to do that to my family member so I opt to not fall into that stereotype. Yes, some sister are cutting US off because of actions like this when they need to be checking themselves while brothers are finding excuses to stray from us so we need not give them any….I AM NOT THAT GIRL who hurt you, so don’t put all of us in the same basket….all of you (men) aren’t cheaters, drug dealers, drop outs, convicts, abusive, multiple baby daddy’s , weed smoking, gun packing, drive by shooting, parasite a$$ ninjas… so WHY do all black women have to take the blame for what some other female took you through? Ok, so you got your feelings hurt, so now you tuck tail and run to a white (anything but black) girl???? To me, that makes you (men) weak…we as BLACK WOMEN, are hurt DAILY! watching videos where the leading female character is ANYTHING but black in a R&B/RAP video, some of these pro athletes thinking their “trophy wife” is tarnished if she’s too brown (black), and movies where black women are props instead of supporting actresses opposite Denzel or Will…WE NEVER HAVE, NOR EVER WILL, NEED ANY OTHER WOMAN (white or hispanic) TO TAKE OUR PLACE…WE can dance in those videos, We can “behave” in public and we damn SHO can act because we have to PRETEND to be happy in a world that we KNOW could care less about US as a people and most def as a BLACK WOMAN.
