Madam Prezident: Ciara Says “The N-Word Doesn’t Mean The Same Thing Today As It Did Many Years Ago”

Ciara Says, The N-Word Doesn’t Mean The Same Thing Today As It Did Many Years Ago

Ciara stopped by Access Hollywood to discuss her upcoming video with Nicki Minaj titled “I’m Out”, but before she got to speak on her recent music projects, she was asked to state how she felt about the use of the N-word. Ciara had a lot to say about the use of the N-word and Paula Deen’s recent N-word encounter.

Ciara explanation to the use of the N-word was very clear. In different words she said, the use of the N-word is different when she uses it.  Do you agree?

“As an entertainer you have fun and it’s all about the context it’s used in. I am an AfricanAmerican woman, so I can identify with that word in different ways, It’s all about the context and in my case I know I can have fun because I know where I’m coming from with it. You have to be light-hearted and it has to be in a certain way. I cannot hear another person of another race saying, ‘you this’ like ‘you that.’ Again, it’s all about how you say it and what context it’s used in.

That word has as much power as you give it.

“That word is so old that it references the context of where it comes from. I want to make sure I’m clear about that, it doesn’t mean that same thing that it could have meant years ago, especially when we can have fun about it.”

Regardless of what Ciara says, we must be accountable for our words. If we constantly excuse ourselves for using the N-word then we cannot moan and cry when someone from another race uses it against us; no matter what context it’s in.  The host from ‘Access Hollywood’ put Ciara on blast by publicly stating on camera that her music has frequent use of the N-word.

Don’t use slurs outside of your own group. If I use the word “d*go” in front of Italians, I expect to get my butt kicked. If an Italian says it, it’s none of my damn business. How effin hard is this for people to understand? Why do people condescend to black people and lecture them about everything they do and say, even some other black people? The rules dont change for us. I dont give a crap how many Irish people use “m*ck”, Im not gonna say it or even type it. Stick that in your self-righteous pipe and smoke it.

  2. DeepEntity says:

    Now that’s well said.

  3. DeepEntity says:

These Entertainer are so full of BS it’s pathetic…They will sell their souls for a buck!

  4. Ahmasi says:

I suspect she has no idea where the word comes from, its history and the death and violence associated with it! This younger generation, so-called, hip hop generation believes they can change the meaning of the word, can change the history of the word but saying it’s a term of ‘endearment’! Fanny Lou Hammer is turning over in her grave but I doubt if Ciara knows who that is. Perhaps she should say those things to the mother of Emmet Till but again, she knows not of Emmet Till! The word is a word of dehumanization, degradation and death! When white mobs were hanging Black men from poplar trees across this country, both south and north, in their minds they were not hanging a Human Being, to them they were just hanging a ‘n—-‘; someTHING so foul and ‘useless'; someTHING unworthy of Humane consideration that hanging them was nearly a social event where whites gathered to vent their deepest, rawest hatred for Black people! I will not call Ciara “stupid” because I don’t know her but I can call her ignorant based on HER OWN WORDS! Black people died horrible deaths, suffered unimaginable humiliation to more our people forward and here some of us are trying to take us back and off course! I maintain that celebrities sometimes have an unearned ‘soapbox’ where they have the public’s attention and often feel justified in spouting ‘their feelings’ without one lick of historical knowledge of what our people have been through!! History is a powerful teaching tool, full of lessons and cautionary tales; when we know where we’ve been and what we’ve been through, we have a better understanding of the present and what we can do in the future; that is why our history is kept from us and others are allowed to spew their ignorance!

  5. Belinda Muhammad says:

The word Nigger, Niggah, Nigga , is not to be used in a playful context, a term of endearment, a hip word to say. It wasn’t meant in a positive light to be called nigger. When the slave masters use it they said it with such hatred and disgust . Black people had names back then and have names now. Call us by our names, nothing is as sweet as the sound of one’s name. Ignorance is Bliss! even among some rappers/entertainers.

  6. Elishia Prince says:

I think if we all did our part to stay connected to our history and remembering and acknowledging our past we’d all be better a little better off.. I know if she takes a stroll down memory lane and pay a little homage to our ancestors and gets reconnected with the atrocious things that has happened to us and its connection with this word she will regret having mad these comments. AS I TOO REGRET EVER USING THAT WORD. Unfortunately She is not alone. There are hoods and hoods of people using this word casually. I HAVE TOO! I WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN. LETS HOPE THIS CAN CHANGE OTHERS FOR THE BETTER! WHEN I REALIZED HOW IGNORANT I SOUNDED USING THE WORD, THEN RECONNECTED WITH MY HISTORY AND WHAT MY PEOPLE HAVE WENT THROUGH AND HOW THIS WORD WAS USED TO BE JUST AS HARSH, HATEFUL ANF HARMFUL AS THE SLASHES FROM THE WHIP OF “MASTER” IT CHANGED ME. WORDS ARE INDEED VERY POWERFUL!I INVITE YOU ALL TO PLEASE CHECK OUT MY YOU TUBE VIDEO: ELISHIA PRINCE WAKE UP!! IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH A VIEW! I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE BLESSED! PLUS I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT! THANKS GUYS! GOD BLESS.

  7. Lizzyanco says:

Young folks don’t know the history of anything, including this derogatory term. They never faced legal discrimination. int their lifetime. Ciara does not have a clue

  8. jaye ford says:

Ciara should know the history of America and who created the “N” word and why. It has the same meaning today as it did in 1950; don’t fool yourself to think otherwise. And, yes, there is a HUGE difference in a Black person using that word in a conversation with me, than if a White person used it towards me. BIG difference! I am from the generation that a White person CANNOT call me that; it would probably be a fight or at least an ugly argument. Anyhow, why are those two annoying hosts asking Ciara about that? Stick to questions about her music! Morons.

  9. Goldie Costello says:

Im 28, single, and educated and consider myself to identified with the unseen group of moral young black adults. Ciara is apart of the ignorant young adult population (example of this group: ENTIRE love and hip-hop cast), and she doesn’t speak for all of us. Many of us know the history attached to this horrible word and refuse to acknowledge it as apart of our daily vocabulary. Its really quite embarrassing to have them on network TV using the n-word, and f-word and all the other vulgar words so easily, because it paints a picture that we all act like them. Of course it would be entertaining to have young black adults discussing political issues, industry advancement, or even hair care rituals now would it?…. ignorance (smh)

  10. Oh hell Nah! says:

Not surprised by her explanation nor that of many black folks in the entertainment industry. Most of these are low class hood folk who just happened to have some marketable talent. Ciara not only uses the N word but she refers to women as bitches. I use both the N and the B word as what they are intended to be used for…INSULTS! Trust if I call you a nigga or a bitch it is not a compliment. You don’t have to guess at the context. I am calling you a deroggatory name most likely because you are behaving in a derrogatory fashion. I pity Ciara and her ignorance. I guess every non-black person can call her a nigga/nigger now as long as they say it with a smile! Dumb bitch! Then again, her last few boyfriends have consisted of:
A whore with 3 baby mommas and kids all damn near the same age
A baller who just used her to make his longtime girlfriend jealous and to extend his 15 mins of fame
    A closet fag rapper
    A midget no money-making rapper
