Mattel Introduces ‘Drag Queen’ Barbie-Really?!

This is clearly the year of the homosexual.  With that being the case, Mattel is quick to make a buck off the trend, offering a new “Drag Queen Barbie” for your kiddies to eat up and enjoy.  We don’t know how this relates to the old Barbie, who used to be a woman.  But now Barbie is a dude.

Phillipe Blond is the designer of the doll, and we’re not quite sure who his target audience is.  The doll has a sparkly cocktail dress, a bunch of jewelry and a white fur coat, awesome equipment for any drag queen out there.

We’re not sure who would buy this for their child, since you’re kinda encouraging them to become a drag queen.  Maybe they should figure that out on their own instead of being encouraged at an early age.  Just sayin.

I think this is a great idea. It is essential for children to have exposure to different things so that they do not grow up to be close minded individuals. There are different people in this world as we are not a school of fish where everyone moves the same, looks the same and has the same thought process.

Showing children the differences in people at a young age, they will be less likely to grow up looking at those that are different like those people are beneath them. I’m sure there was a lot of outrage and questioning when they created the first black Barbie. It’s always time for change. I personally do not want to see the next generation act like the generation before me, and hate people for the color f their skin or their lifestyle choices.

We can all get along, I promise. You just have to open your mind and see that no matter how you look on the outside, we all have a heart that pumps blood through our veins and lungs that breathe life into our bodies. We are all human and deserve equality.

For the record, I’m a 23 year old African-American woman and I accept all people, no matter the color of their skin, their physical deformities, or their mental short comings.

Since children aren’t brought into this world by the good old stork, it’s up to the parents to educate their children as best they can before the outside world has its influence. That way they may make educated decisions about what they want in their lives.

  3. Dear Madame,
Collector’s Edition Barbies are for grown ups, not for children. Several notable designers and celebs have done “their” version of Barbie and people collect them much like pop art. http://www.barbiecollector.com/

Over the years, Barbie has had COUNTLESS careers. The unveiling of a new occupation for this iconic doll has not introduced any spike said career. Why would the Drag Queen be any different?
In this day and age of unmarried reality celebutarts marrying and divorcing faster than one can place an order in the drive through at Wendy’s, there are FAR more toxic influencers in the media that bombards our children than a Drag Queen doll. What about the little kids who feel conflicted about their own identities and need/want some representation in the toys they play with?

I understand the point you were trying to make, but you should tread carefully with phrases like “This is the year of the homosexual.” While I’m assuming you meant it to sound celebratory, your final blurb makes the piece read more condescending and intolerant than anything else. It suggests that there is something “wrong” with being a Drag Queen. Anyone who has watched RuPaul’s Drag U can attest to the transformative power and performative confidence that donning the costume/armor of drag can inspire in otherwise meek and/or broken people, men and women alike. If the world’s just a stage, I see nothing wrong with taking center in an amazing frock, , makeup, wig and glitter….
    Respectfully- Carmen Jones.

Another misinformed article!!! Do some research before you write or open your mouth!! This is for adults and not for children. Stop making yourself sound ignorant….RESEARCH FIRST!!

It is less than 90 days to the election…Let’s talk about the election, and not this foolishness regarding a DOLL. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and what he and Romney have in store for Americans if elected: Mitt Romney pandered to the extreme right and announced Paul Ryan as his pick for vice president, guaranteeing that this election will be about tax cuts, Medicare, and the economy.

Ryan is considered a rock star for Republicans, the lead architect of the radical right-wing budget that Republicans are pushing in Congress.

A budget that calls for: Repealing the Affordable Health Care Act and the Dream Act. Huge new tax cuts for the super-rich on top of extending the Bush tax cuts. Turning Medicare into a voucher program and making massive cuts to vital programs like Medicaid, food stamps, Pell Grants, and job training which would greatly impact the middle-class and poor of all races.

New increases in military spending — even as President Obama ends two wars.

Let me put this as simply as I can: Paul Ryan is the author of everything we’ve been fighting against in Washington since Republicans took control of the House — and now Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan want to take over the oval office and America.

@ Elizabeth I’m 100% sure there are countless forums disusing the presidential election as we type…. you just happen to be on a forum that has a drag queen doll as the topic. Go to the forums you feel are important and make your contribution there and where your political convictions can be heard in a conducive environment
