Study Finds Young Mothers More At Risk For Breast Cancer

While younger women were previously thought to have been at a much lower risk for the disease, new cancer research is now finding that mothers, regardless of age, may be at a higher risk for developing “postpartum breast cancer.”

via USA Today

While breast cancer is not common in women so young, almost one-third of the 25,000 cases diagnosed in women under age 45 fall into the category of postpartum breast cancer, also called pregnancy-associated breast cancer, says Pepper Schedin, a professor at the University of Colorado in Denver.

For reasons doctors don’t completely understand, a woman’s risk of breast cancer actually goes up in the five years or so after she has a child, Schedin says.

It’s likely that the hormones of pregnancy play a role, says Eric Winer, director of breast oncology at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. For example, hormonal surges and fluctuations may speed up the growth of a pre-existing cancer, leading a woman to be diagnosed sooner than she might have been if she had never been pregnant.

Of course, there are also other contributing factors that make a woman high-risk for breast cancer such as family history. Be sure to stay informed and stay healthy with regular check ups and doctor visits.

TLC Shows Half Ton Woman Accused Of Killing Her Nephew In New Special!!!

This story has us asking way too many questions…Mayra Rosales weighs more than 1000lbs and is bedridden due to her severe obesity. After babysitting her sisters four kids on the regular for months, she confessed to crushing and killing her two-year-old nephew, Eliseo, Jr. back in 2008.

Sadly enough we found out the conclusions of the case so we’ll give you a quick spoiler alert [STOP READING NOW!!] if you want to watch the special without knowing the whole story.

Here’s the breakdown…Because of her condition, Mayra was bedridden. And because of her inability to move, she was not supposed to be taking care of her sister Jaime‘s kids, but she often babysat them. Although lawyers on both sides began to realize that Mayra hadn’t killed Eliseo Jr., she still had to go on trial. It took months to find a court room big enough (no pun intended) to accommodate Mayra and even then, they had to take walls out to get her in.

Mayra confessed that her sister Jaime had been abusing Eliseo for a while and that in one instance, she’d whacked her son with a hairbrush when he refused to eat…but when the paramedics came to take Eliseo Jr. out of the home, Jaime begged Mayra to take the blame.

“I thought I was dying anyway,” Mayra said, “so I decided to admit that I’d done it to protect my sister because I love her.”

Jaime showed Mayra how much she loved her and bailed, leaving Mayra to possibly face a death sentence. Jaime did return though and confessed to killing Eliseo Jr. and was sentenced to 15 years in jail. The stress of the case was too much for Mayra’s health and sadly, she is confined to a hospital bed at a medical center for the super-obese. She’s said that it feels just like being in jail.

This is a sad story for so many reasons…the full episode isn’t on until October and you’ll be damn sure we’re going to watch!

Approximately 92,000 people are on the waiting list for kidney transplants in the United States, according to the National Kidney Foundation. Last year, 4,903 of them died waiting.

A Former Dancer Opens Up About Butt Injections

Shawty Got Azz On Her-I can spend a couple grand on her! Former stripper/dancer and author of the popular book Shot Girls, recently opened up about her addiction to butt injections. Which made her ill.

Vanity Wonder was addicted to butt addictions-she was a guest on UK morning show today. The shots altered her body.   Vanity became popular on the internet she showed the world her butt injection progress.

She stated

‘When I heard about butt injections I thought it sounded stupid but after a year in that environment as a dancer, everyone was doing it, it wasn’t such a foreign concept. I thought I might as well try it.  ‘Then it became a competition – not for men but against other women. So many of us were doing it because we wanted to better than the other person.’

Truth be told-she isn’t the only one doing butt injections. Your favorite celebrity could be guilty of it as well.

‘It did become addictive but it got infected so I was left with lumps. So I had a choice, I could have a medium-sized lumpy butt or keep padding it with silicone to make it better. So it wasn’t my goal to get this big but padding it with silicone is how this happened.’

Vanity is pleading with women all over the world to stay away from butt injections!

She added,

‘Truthfully I would like smaller butt but I’m happy I didn’t die and still here for my children. I did so much dumb stuff with my body I’m lucky that I’m still living. When I look in the mirror, I think I would like a smaller butt, it’s hard to go shopping, but I’m just happy I’m still here.’

Mother Killed Her Son To Prevent Family Members From Raising Him

Police say a 40-year-old Brooklyn woman killed her young son on Friday night by bashing him on the head with a hammer several times, choking him with her hands and a belt and putting a plastic bag over his head, according to court documents.

Tenika Revell’s boyfriend reportedly told the New York Daily News that he believed she killed her 7-year-old son Bernard because she was dying of breast cancer and did not want anyone else to raise the boy after she died.

“She loved him so much she didn’t want nobody else to have him,” Terrace Johnson told the paper.

This is absolutely CRAZY! God please protect your children-the devil is trying to take over America!

Study Shows “Despite Hardships Black Men In Urban America Are Not Giving Up On Success”

Black men, especially those living in low-income, urban areas, face many societal stressors, including racial discrimination, incarceration and poverty. In addition, these men have poorer health outcomes. Now, a University of Missouri faculty member has studied these men’s efforts to negotiate social environments that are not designed to help them attain good health and success. “Too often, researchers focus on Black men’s weaknesses rather than their strengths,” said Michelle Teti, assistant professor of health sciences in the MU School of Health Professions. “By understanding what’s working, we can reinforce those positive behaviors and help men make healthier choices.”

The study explored resilience–how individuals demonstrate positive mental health regardless of stress and adversity–among low-income Black men living in urban areas. Through interviews, the researchers learned about societal stressors in the men’s lives, including racism, incarceration, unemployment and surviving rough neighborhoods. Despite these hardships, many research participants had found ways to overcome their adversities through five primary forms of resilience: perseverance, commitment to learn from hardships, reflecting and refocusing to address difficulties, creating supportive environments and obtaining support from religion and spirituality.

“Resilience is not a psychological trait that you either are born with or not; resilience can be taught and nurtured,” said Teti’s co-author and principal investigator of the study, Lisa Bowleg, an associate professor in the School of Public Health at Drexel University in Philadelphia. “Accordingly, our findings suggest we can use resilience strategies used by men in our study to teach other low-income Black men how to better protect themselves and their sexual partners from risk despite some harsh social-structural realities.” Teti and Bowleg say community members and government officials should do more to prepare Black men for success rather than failure and, in particular, to teach them protective behaviors against HIV.

“It is admirable that these men are resilient in the face of such severe challenges; however, the men’s efforts only can be translated into success if they are supported by social environments and policies that change the odds against them,” Teti said. “Low-income, Black, urban men desperately need jobs; they need quality educations; they need policies designed to keep them out of prisons. They need opportunities to make living wages for themselves and their families; they need safer neighborhoods,” Bowleg said. “The most disconcerting aspects of our research on resilience were the narratives of men who were doggedly trying to be resilient in the face of seemingly insurmountable social-structural obstacles.”
