Texas Teens Arrested For Breaking In To Mall To Steal Air Jordan Sneakers

Two teenagers were arrested this week after cutting into the roof of a mall in Houston to steal Nike Air Jordan sneakers.

A security guard at Greenspoint mall, on the north side of Houston, saw the thieves in the Foot Action store early Wednesday morning and called police. John Grant, 19, and another male, 16, were arrested at the scene, but a third suspect believed to be around the same age fled.

“We believe we know the identity of the third male who fled on foot and is still wanted,” Cannon said.

Grant has a court date of Aug. 29 at a state district court and is currently in custody with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Police and the prosecutor’s office will not release any details about the 16-year-old because he is a minor.

Grant, who does not have an attorney according to court records, could not be reached for comment.

John Cannon, Houston Police spokesman, said officers responded to a burglary call at 4:45 A.M. on Wednesday and found the suspects stole 16 pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers valued at $175 each.

Limited editions of specific Nike sneakers, such as the soon-to-be-released LeBron X Nike Plus basketball sneaker, are often bought and re-sold for costs as high as $1,000.

Violence and long lines have plagued stores like Foot Locker as fans wait hours for a limited number of sneakers.

As for the perpetrators…

Police charged the minor with burglary of a building, a felony, and evading police on foot, which is a misdemeanor.

Gant was charged with burglary of a building, which is also a felony, the Houston Police said.

90% of these young kids never even saw Mike take a jump shot, much less remember the shoes. Yet here they are fighting, cutting, killing, and getting arrested for them, ig’nant azz ninjas…

National Urban League Slams Nike For $315 ‘Lebron X’ Sneakers!

National Urban League Furious Over Nike Release Of Expensive Sneakers

The National Urban League is speaking out against Nike and their upcoming release of the most expensive shoe in Nike history at a whopping $315.

Nike’s basketball ads in the 1980s and early 90s featuring Michael Jordan and Spike Lee’s alter ego Mars Blackmon popularized the famous line “Money, it’s gotta be the shoes!”

Fast forward to 2012 – Nike is still selling sneakers and charging big-time money for them. This fall, the sneaker giant is expected to unveil its ‘LeBron X’ sneaker and if you want to wear them, it will cost a cool $315 according to the Wall Street Journal.

The National Urban League wants no part of it.

The civil rights organization has slammed Nike for charging so much for the shoe and is encouraging parents not to spend their money on an “empty status symbol.” The group’s president Marc Morial has asked Nike to scrap its plans to release the show altogether:

“I ask Nike – and the parents whose children are targeted in this misdirected campaign – to join us in our efforts to empower young people to value their own talents – athletic and otherwise – above material tokens and work together for broader access to the economic mainstream.”

The urban league released a statement earlier today, where Morial describes the LeBron James sneaker as representing “twisted priorities and confused values.”

Earlier in the statement, Morial says: “To release such an outrageously overpriced product while the nation is struggling to overcome an unemployment crisis is insensitive at best.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, this version of the ‘LeBron X’ sneaker includes its own electronics and will be the most expensive shoe in Nike history.

Would you buy these for your child or let them spend their hard earned money to purchase them?

LeBron James Joins Kobe In His Wishful Thinking: About Beating 1992 Dream Team [Video]

According to Hip-Hop Wired: Kobe Bryant made news, and earned epic levels of commentary and slander, when he said his current Olympic basketball squad would beat the 1992 Dream Team if they met on the court. In an interview with ABC News, LeBron James was asked what he thought about Kobe’s prediction and if he agreed. King James gave a measured and politically correct answer, that pretty much meant “yes.”

“Kobe is a teammate of mine, and I support him,” said LeBron. “As a competitor, you never want to say that you will lose, no matter who you’re going against. The ’92 Dream Team paved the way for all of us. The set a standard in the Olympics and basketball in general that’s very high. As a competitor and as a fan of those guys you try to live up to that. You try to be better than them so people start talking about your team, the 2012 team. So we understand what they did for our game, but we also are big time competitors as well. So if we had an opportunity to play them, in  a game, we feel like we would win too.”

Coincidentally, at a press conference on Friday (July 27th), Kobe admitted that the 1992 squad that features 11 NBA Hall Of Famers is the better team, but he stuck to his story and said that the current team would beat them at least one game. Fair enough.

Team USA’s Men’s basketball team’s first Olympic game goes down tomorrow (July 29th) against France.

Who do you think would win if Kobe and LeBron’s hoopers hopped in a huge DeLorean and played the Michael Jordan led Dream Team? Michael’s thoughts below, after the clip LeBron’s interview.

Madam Prezident: New Trend-Black Men & Black ToeNail Polish ‘Dwyane Wade Shows Off His Black Toenail Polish

Dwyane Wade- Miami Heat NBA champion is all about wearing toenail polish! he tweeted this pic with the caption, ‘Matte black paint… RockStar ish..‘ which sparked various debates on twitter.

Last year, in his November 2011 feature in GQ, he revealed that he’s been wearing black polish for at least three years

“Three years ago I was like, ‘Man, I kind of want to paint my toenails black.’ At first I thought, ‘Nah, I can’t do that. They’re going to kill me.’ But eventually I decided to try it. Later I was on vacation in the Bahamas with LeBron, and when he saw my toes he was like, ‘Something is seriously wrong with you.’ But eventually Bron was like, ‘You know what? You’re crazy, but that’s just you.’ When I first got into the league, I tried to fit in. Now I don’t care.”

Of course D.Wade didn’t pick this trend up from other black millionairs; his trend was inspired by rock stars such as Marilyn Manson, Motley Crew, Duran Duran and Stone Temple Pilots who were well known for wearing!

however,  Dennis Rodman, was the first athlete to show up at a media day wearing polish on his fingernails.

D.Wade isn’t alone in is rock star mode-Evelyn Lozada tweeted a photo of Chad Ochocinco wearing black nail polish with the caption, ‘Peep Dennis Rodman’s twin with the black nail polish’.

Really?!?!

Honestly-I don’t want my main wearing the polish-let me do that-

What you think?

USA Basketball announces Olympic roster for London Games

A ccording to Yahoo Sports:

LAS VEGAS – LeBron James will make one guarantee about Team USA in the upcoming Olympics in London: They will be fast.

James Harden was among the final players to make Team USA’s 12-man roster. (Getty Images)USA Basketball announced the final 12-man roster for the London Games, and it’s clear the U.S. won’t lack for speed or versatility. Of the final two spots that appeared to be up for grabs, USA Basketball officials chose a pair of wings – James Harden of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers – and passed on adding forward Anthony Davis, the top overall pick of last month’s NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets.

Harden joins Thunder teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook on Team USA, the first time three players from the same NBA team have been selected. Thunder forward Serge Ibaka also will play for Spain’s national team.

Joining James, Iguodala and the Thunder’s trio on Team USA will be Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Kevin Love.

“There is a lot of dynamics with our lineups with guys that play a lot of positions,” James said. “K.D. can play [positions] two through five. I can play one through five if I have to. Iguodala can do it as well. ‘Melo can play multiple positions. The list goes on. It should be fun.”

[Also: Kobe Bryant says Steve Nash makes Lakers a title threat]

With a handful of players, including Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, withdrawing from consideration because of injuries, 10 of the roster slots appeared to be locked up heading into Friday’s start of training camp, leaving five players – Harden, Iguodala, Davis, Rudy Gay and Eric Gordon – to compete for the final two openings. The absence of Howard, Bosh and LaMarcus Aldridge has left Team USA with a shortage of big men. Davis was a candidate, but sprained his ankle during a workout a week ago and lacked the international experience of other players.

Gordon was passed over because Team USA already had plenty of guards and sources said he was more rusty than other candidates after playing just nine games last season because of a knee injury. Gay would have had a hard time getting minutes at power forward. Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski liked Iguodala’s defense during the 2010 world championships and values Harden’s versatility. Griffin provides some needed size.

USA Basketball officials were discussing with the Hornets whether to add Davis to the Select Team that will train against the national team.

This will be LeBron James’ third Olympics. He helped Team USA win the gold medal in 2008. (AP)”The 15 guys that we started camp with all could have been on this trip together,” James said. “Eric, Rudy and Anthony are three great basketball players. You hate that there is a limitation on guys you can take. The guys that are here are all excited and look forward to the challenge.”

Team USA will play an exhibition against the Dominican Republic on July 12 in Las Vegas. The U.S. also will play exhibitions in Washington, D.C.; Manchester, England; and Barcelona, Spain; before arriving in London.

Team USA opens the Olympics against France on July 29.

This will be James’ third Olympics. He says the 2012 Team USA roster has a nice blend of experience and young – quick – legs after USA Basketball officials chose players from the roster that won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the younger roster that won gold at the 2010 world championships.

“The first team in ’04, we were put together really fast. The pieces didn’t fit right and it showed in our play,” James said. “In ’08, it was ‘The Redeem Team,’ and guys had committed to the Olympics for a long time. That’s why we were able to win that gold because we were all about that chemistry.

“It’s going to take some practices, it’s going to take some exhibition games, [but] we have a lot of guys in our prime and we have a lot of young guys and hungry guys who are always looking forward to a challenge.”

Dwyane Wade’s free pass from Miami Heat fans reaches its limits

So now this avalanche finally falls on the weary head of one Dwyane Wade — all this doubt and wrath and even, for the very first time, name-calling. Wade has had to wallow in that sewage for a couple of days now, after his worst moments ever in a Miami Heat uniform. In other words, Wade has spent the weekend feeling the way LeBron James has for much of the past two years. It really is the first time Wade’s golden name has ever been stained in Miami.

This was always supposed to be a partnership between Wade and James, a shared burden, but that’s not quite how it worked out until right now. The expiration date has arrived on this lopsided deal where Wade gets all of the glory and James gets all the blame. At 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Indiana, Wade no longer gets to live off what he did in 2006. That feels like a long time ago. LeBron came here for you, Dwyane. Left behind his hometown and his image. You going to help your friend get out of this unholy mess or not?
