Kardashian Makeup Line Slapped with $10 Million Lawsuit

According to Yahoo news, The Kardashian sisters’ makeup line, Khroma, has been slapped with a copyright infringement lawsuit and it’s not the first time the family has been accused of stealing someone else’s ideas.

Lee Tillett, a makeup artist from Florida, has officially filed suit against the Kardashians in Los Angeles superior court. She is suing for $10 million dollars in damages, claiming the Kardashians stole the name of her makeup line, Kroma, which was founded in 2004, and simply added an “h.”

Apparently the Kardashians couldn’t resist beginning the business’s name with the letter “k.” All five sisters and mom Kris have names beginning with the letter K. Their fashion label is called the Kardashian Kollection for Sears and their line for OPI nail polish is called Kardashian Kolor.

9 reasons why the Kardashians should stay out of fashion

“I developed the Kroma line myself, built my business through my own hard work, and took the legal steps necessary to protect it,” Tillett said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel. “And yet I have now been forced into legal battle with the Kardashians simply because they have decided to take something that doesn’t belong to them.”

Yahoo! Shine reached out to Tillett’s legal representative, but didn’t receive a response at press time.

This is not the first time the Kardashians have faced legal action in regards to Khroma. Back in October, another makeup line called Chroma threatened to sue the Kardashians unless they changed the name of the brand.

Michael Rey, co-owner of Chroma Makeup, told TMZ that the reality stars’ new range “cheapens” his line and “creates confusion in the marketplace.” With the beauty market so oversaturated, it’s not an unfair complaint. Though Rey went even further in the same interview to say his customers would be “embarrassed” to find they had purchased a Kardashian brand in error.

At the time this article was written, suspiciously, the U.S. version of the Khroma Beauty website appeared to be down, but the European version was up and running.

The Kardashians did indeed change the name after the threat from Chroma Makeup, and Boldface Licensing + Branding, the company that owns the Kardashian license, claimed they had gone through several steps to secure the brand’s originality and name, telling the Huffington Post, “Boldface Licensing + Branding has gone through the appropriate legal channels in obtaining the rights to use the name Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloé in the Color Category with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, making all proper legal filings.”

Shine reached out to Boldface Licensing + Branding but did not receive a response.

The KK perfume logo is very similar to this necklace by jewelry designer Korcula.Aside from troubles with the family makeup line, the Kardashians have faced several accusations in years past for stealing ideas in their various businesses. Back in 2010, Shine’s own Joanna Douglas wrote about Kim’s theft of a jewelry designer’s double K design that she then used as the logo for her Kim Kardashian perfume.

Even earlier, in 2009, Kim debuted a dress for her Kardashian/Bebe line that looked markedly similar to a style from Fendi’s Fall 2009 collection that she had been photographed wearing. She claimed on a blog post that the design was merely “inspired by” Fendi’s look. “But copying very distinctive, unique details like adding a hood to a dress, or a leather corset is not only unoriginal, it’s a knock off, Douglas wrote. “That’s not using inspiration, that’s stealing!”

The look from Fendi alongside Kim’s design. And nearly every bag in the Kardashian Kollection of handbags released in 2011 looked almost identical to existing bags from major designers that the Kardasians love and wear, like Balenciaga, Chloe, Alexander Wang, Hermes, YSL, Chanel, and more. In fact, one bag from the Kardashian Kollection was pulledafter designer Monica Botkier sent a cease-and-desist letter to Sears on distributing the bag that she claimed was a knock-off of her design.

Though the status of the lawsuit is unclear, it’s obvious that Lee Tillett will have plenty examples of the Kardashians’ past copyright infringement debacles to back up her claim in court. It’s a novel idea, but perhaps the Kardashians should opt for original business ideas from now on.

Is 7-Year-Old Alana Thompson AKA “Honey Boo Boo Child” Completely Potty Trained?!?!

We really really really seriously hope this is NOT true!!

Via National Enquirer:

Even though she’s a precocious 7-year-old, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson was recently photographed wearing a diaper! The pint-size reality TV star’s pull-up was plain to see when she appeared with her mother, June “Mama” Shannon, to receive the title of “Miss Extra” at The Grove mall in Los Angeles.

And that wasn’t the only time she’s been spotted sporting a diaper. “I was at their home a year ago, and Alana was running around the house wearing nothing but a diaper then,” Caleb Clark, ex-boyfriend of Alana’s oldest sister Anna “Chickadee” Shannon, told The ENQUIRER.

“I was wondering, ‘Isn’t she toilet-trained yet? What’s wrong with these people?’” Experts agree that Alana should have passed through that stage by now. “It’s abnormal to still be in diapers at that age,” leading pediatrician Dr. Sandy Newmark told The ENQUIRER. “After ruling out any possible medical cause, I’d seek psychological help for the child.”

No way this is true. This child is too old to be wearing diapers.

Gucci Mane – “Truth (Young Jeezy Diss)” [Listen]

According to Hip Hop wired,

The long-time rivalry between Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy is getting more intense as the days go by. Earlier in the week, Gucci Mane took a visit to The Breakfast Club and said that he still has no respect for The Snowman.

Yesterday evening, Young Jeezy brushed off those comments on the Big Boy’s Neighborhood show on Power 106 in Los Angeles and proceeded to call Gucci Mane “retarded.” Well it looks like Gucci Mane wasted no time in retorting with a diss track to his nemesis.

In this record, Gucci references one of Young Jeezy’s fallen friends and uses prosecution audio from Gucci’s murder case as well as a snippet of their collaboration “So Icey.”

U.S. Customs Seized $18 Million Dollars Worth Of Fake “Red Bottoms” Made In China

SMH. If your “Louboutins” say “made in China” then there’s something wrong! Ladies Check Your RED Bottoms!

Customs agents in Los Angeles seized 20,457 pairs of fake Christian Louboutin shoes shipped from China, U.S. officials said Thursday. The counterfeit lacquered “red sole” shoes, an icon in women’s fashion, could have brought $18 million if they had reached the online and underworld market, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

“CBP maintains an aggressive and proactive posture on intercepting shipments containing counterfeit and pirated items,” CBP Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles Todd C. Owen said.

Five shipments were seized at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport on July 27 and August 14, the CPB release said. “Often available on illegitimate websites and underground outlets, counterfeit high fashion commodities multiply the illegal profits of smugglers and traffickers,” the agency said. “The public is misguided into believing they are buying an original product at a significant discount.”

SMH. People really ain’t isht. Ladies, if you can’t afford to buy Christian Louboutin shoes, you just can’t afford it!!!!

Melinda Haag And Congresswoman Barbara Lee Battle Over Closure Of Bay Area Medicinal Mary Jane Shops

Aye, aye, aye-ye…

Politicians In The Bay Area Battle Over Medicial Mary Jane Dispensaries

Last week was one of the the darkest for the medical marijuana movement, with the federal Justice Department picking two of San Francisco’s best-known and best-behaving licensed medical cannabis dispensaries for closure. This came mere weeks after U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag moved to close Harborside Health Center — the nation’s biggest pot club and Oakland’s second-biggest taxpayer.

Could things get much worse? Well, sure — Haag could close all of San Francisco’s dispensaries, as she is rumored to be considering to do by Christmas, according to sources.

Enter Congresswoman Barbara Lee, the Oakland Democrat who is mad as hell. She introduced legislation in Washington that would halt Haag and her three California counterparts in their tracks.

Lee on Thursday introduced a bill that would prohibit the Justice Department from using asset forfeiture laws against the landlords of state-legal medical marijuana clubs, according to Americans for Safe Access.

The bill would remove from Haag’s arsenal her most reliable weapon — shutting down clubs with nothing more than a letter sent via certified mail. It would also force her to escalate or abandon the war on those pot patients who suffer from AIDS, cancer, or chronic pain.

The forfeiture laws employed by Haag and her counterparts in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego were crafted in the 1980s to punish narcotics traffickers, but have been handy tools in the statewide crackdown on medical marijuana, which began last fall.

About a dozen dispensaries have been shut down in the Bay Area since Oct. 7, 2011, and “hundreds” more across the state have moved voluntarily or been evicted by landlords, according to ASA.

How does Barbara Lee plan to keep the kush lit in the bay?

Lee’s bill, H.R. 6335, is called the Medical Marijuana Property Rights Protection Act. It would prohibit the feds from using asset forfeiture proceedings to threaten, intimidate, or otherwise close state-legal cannabis dispensaries, and “begin to align federal law to states’ laws that allow for safe access to medical marijuana,” she said in a statement.

Sounds like ol’ Barbara Lee likes to take a toke of that good-good every now and then.
