Four Gay Men Are Suing Ex-Therapists Who Promised To Help ‘Turn Them Straight’!!

It was worth a shot, wasn’t it?!?!

A group of men are taking therapists to court for deceiving them after the promise to help them ‘overcome unwanted attractions’ failed…SMH.

According to The New York Times,

In New Jersey on Tuesday, four gay men who tried the therapy filed a civil suit against a prominent counseling group, charging it with deceptive practices under the state’s Consumer Fraud Act.

The former clients said they were emotionally scarred by false promises of inner transformation and humiliating techniques that included stripping naked in front of the counselor and beating effigies of their mothers. They paid thousands of dollars in fees over time, they said, only to be told that the lack of change in their feelings was their own fault.

Since the 1970s, when mainstream mental health associations stopped branding homosexuality as a disorder, a small network of renegade therapists, conservative religious leaders, and self-identified “life coaches” have continued to argue that it is not inborn, but an aberration rooted in childhood trauma. Homosexuality is caused, these therapists say, by a stifling of normal masculine development, often by distant fathers and overbearing mothers, or by early physical abuse.

But leading scientific and medical groups say that the theories of homosexuality are unfounded and that there is no evidence that core inner-urges can be changed. They also warn that the therapy can, in the words of the American Psychiatric Association, cause “depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior” and “reinforce self-hatred already experienced by the patient.”

One former patient in the suit, Michael Ferguson, 30, who is now a doctoral candidate in neuroscience at the University of Utah, sought help from Jonah in 2008. He tried to battle his homosexuality, he said, when he was a practicing Mormon who believed that only those in a heterosexual marriage could achieve eternal bliss.

“It becomes fraudulent, even cruel,” he said in an interview. “To say that if you really want to change you could — that’s an awful thing to tell somebody.”

“I was encouraged to develop anger and rage toward my parents,” he added. “The notion that your parents caused this is a horrible lie. They ask you to blame your mother for being loving and wonderful.”

Another former patient in the suit, Chaim Levin, 23, grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn where, he said, being gay seemed unthinkable.

Referred to Jonah by a rabbi when he was 18, Mr. Levin began attending weekend retreats at $650 each. For a year and a half, he had weekly private sessions with Mr. Downing as well as weekly group sessions. He quit, he said, after Mr. Downing had him remove his clothes and touch himself, saying it would help him reconnect with his masculinity.

Mr. Levin said that he was abused by a relative between the ages of 6 and 10 and that Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Downing blamed the abuse for his homosexual attractions. “Saying the abuse made you gay is terrible,” Mr. Levin said. “Once I accepted that I was gay, I was able to focus on the more serious problem of a history of abuse.”

Do you think it’s worth the ‘effort’ for men to try therapy in order to change their feelings for other men?

Pizza Shop Being Boycotted By White Folks For “Picking Up And Bear Hugging” Barack Obama

Remember that guy who picked up the President in his pizza shop?? Well now, shady mugfuggas are boycotting him for doing such…

Via Politico:

The owner of a Florida pizza shop says people are boycotting his business because he bear-hugged President Barack Obama on Sunday. “People are saying a lot of bad things and boycotting my restaurant,” Scott Van Duzer, 46, told POLITICO. “There’s no middle line anymore, and that’s exactly what’s wrong with our country right now.” The owner of Big Apple Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Fort Pierce, Fla., said that both Democrats and Republicans are welcome in his store.

Obama told The New York Times that Van Duzer’s effort in promoting blood donations was part of the reason the campaign decided to visit his pizza shop. “One of the reasons that we wanted to stop by is that Scott has been doing unbelievable work out of this pizza shop in promoting the importance of donating blood,” Obama told the Times. “And so he has set some records here in Florida. He has received commendations from the White House, the surgeon general, he has galvanized and mobilized the local community and he’s educating kids and folks all across the country on this issue.”

Toya Wright Speaks Up About Her $1 Million Lawsuit Over ‘Priceless Inspirations’

Toya Wright has spent the last two years plugging her New York Bestseller, ‘Priceless Inspirations’ so it was a surprise this week when publisher ‘Farrah Gray Publishing, sent out a press release stating that they would be suing the BET reality star for $1 million dollars. According to the lawsuit, Toya failed to promote the book according to the contract and she “purposefully and maliciously” went behind the company’s back to sell her book through “unauthorized venues” which has caused a huge loss in profits. Farrah Gray, owner of the company, has terminated the agreement but says that since Toya didn’t negotiate the termination clause in the contract, he owns the rights to the book. He also wants Toya to pay his legal and court fees in the suit. Dang.

After news of the pending lawsuit made it’s rounds, Toya took to her Twitter to address the lawsuit while claiming that Farrah Gray is the one that owes her money:

The things people do for Attention. SMH

Please beware of who u do business with….not everybody is happy for your success. #thedevilisaliar

you must really be BROKE….. u trying to sue me for 1 million dollars. for whAt??? give me 1 good reason.

how are you gonna sue me when you owe me money?????#wheretheydothatat

let me remind you Farrah Grey……are you forgetting that “Priceless Inspirations” was your 1st and only NY times bestseller.‪#imjustsayin‬

Another lawsuit from Farrah Grey….. It can’t be the authors. U need to take a look at yourself. #Getittogether http://yfrog.com/odaqgeej

im so sorry tweethearts….but i refuse to let anyone lie on me. i did all i can do to sell my book and promote it. so all of this is BS!

Toya’s rep also came to her defense in a press release which states that Toya did absolutely nothing wrong:

“Mrs. Wright consistently went above and beyond her contractual obligations which included: Self- funding a college tour promoting Priceless Inspirations, Cross promotion of her Ampro endorsement by placing the book cover on Ampro products nationwide and allowing Farrah Gray Publishing the platform to promote her book on her highly successful reality show on Black Entertainment Television.”

This is going to be interesting. Who do you believe?

Newbie Rapper Azealia Banks GETS FLIRTY For “T” Magazine

Buzz-worthy rapper Azealia Banks dons a sexy bodysuit for the latest issue of “T” Magazine.  See the pic and find out about her Harlem-upbringing inside…..

Harlem bred rapper Azealia Banks, who calls herself the “Young Rapunxel,” posed for a Terry Richardson photo inThe New York Times ”T” Magazine (on newsstands now).  She rocked a Rochas bodysuit with Dolce & Gabbana shoes and Solange Azagury-Partridge earrings for the shoot.

The up and coming rap chick has made a name for herself with her different rap style & beats and starting beef with other female rappers.

Inside the magazine, she talks about growing up with money in a poor area of Harlem:

“We lived in Harlem just, like, at the beginning of its gentrification…but my mom had our apartment since she was 18, she worked a retail job, but she worked on commission, so she made like, maybe, 75 or $80,000 a year, but our rent was so cheap since it was, like, rent-controlled, so our rent was, like, $300 a month for a two-bedroom apartment, so we always had extra money.”

She continued on how her mother spoiled her with everything a girl could want:

“I grew up very spoiled…like I had everything: I had computers, I had video games, I had dress-up clothes, I had lipstick, I had heels—not like, actual heels, play heels—I had dolls, I had birds, I had hamsters—my mom did a really good job of keeping me stimulated.”

Yep sure sounds like it.  Now the “212″ chick is in London where she has been embraced by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. “Europe and the U.K. have just been sucking me up,” she joked.

Her album Broke with Expensive Taste (due September) to drop so we can see what the hype is about.
