The St. Paul Public School District and Timothy Olmsted, 6th grade teacher at the Heights Community School in St. Paul, Minnesota, are being sued by his students’ families. The lawsuit comes after students reported Olmsted’sdiscrimination against African-American students:
Olmsted resigned this past spring, but the school district is still paying him through the first week of October. Parents are upset that no disciplinary action has been taken against Olmsted.
Latasha Tolbert’s daughter was a student in Olmsted’s class. Tolbert spoke to CBS and said Olmsted, “told the entire class that it is easier for him to teach rich white folks, than poor black people,” and it didn’t stop there. He also told Tolbert’s daughter that she would be standing on the corner and begging for money one day.
Tolbert tried again and again to bring these incidents to the attention of school officials. The Star Tribune reports, in the lawsuit that was filed by parents, that Tolbert said she made 98 calls to Heights Principal Jayne Ropella about Olmsted’s behavior from September to December.
The lawsuit alleges Olmsted called black students “fat, black and stupid,” and even made black students sit in the back of his room or turn their desks to face the wall. Sixth grade, African-American student, Aylecia Ingram-Jones said she was forced to sit in the back solely because of the color of her skin.
This is not the first incident Olmsted is involved in. He has several reprimands from the district, including being suspended for five days without pay for giving a graphic description to his class of castrating horses and throwing testicles into the field for cats to eat. The Star Tribune reports Olmsted received another five-day suspension without pay in 2003 for giving a 6th grade student a birthday card containing sexual innuendo and making her read it to the class.
Although the lawsuit has been moved to the federal courts, the families’ lawyer, Meg Kane does not expect the case to go to trial for at least another year.
This is just ridiculous! How dare a teacher misuse his role and bully these children like that. Teachers hold one of the biggest influences on a child’s life, outside of their parents. This is not acceptable and he should be FIRED!!!

White privilege at it again… had this been a Black teacher involved in just ONE incident that was listed, they would’ve been fired on the spot and this individual not only was given numerous second chances, but is still getting paid.
This story is over a year old and your posting it like it just happened yesterday! The only thing new about this story is the law suite! Y’all are so sad!

This teacher should have been fired when she demonstrated castration. The school district should be called on the carpet for their lack of action.

This teacher, and other’s like him should be out of the school system.Their teacher’s license suspended. Parents send their kids to school to learn. This guy is certainly giving them a lesson!! With TEACHERS doing things such as this, is it any wonder racism and hate continues in the world? Unfortunately, I don’t think there is really any way to fully know a teacher’s attitudes until something such as this happens.
I don’t even support black females anymore..time after time they have proven to be practically racist towards black males…in support of white supremacy and just plain DUMB!!! I reall dont think there are any so called “QUEENS” in this world!!! They are all fake and sellouts..its just so hard to support them…
The teacher should be reprimanded and terminated for his racist, unprofessional, and cruelty his imposed upon his unsuspecting students due to his narrowmindedness and ignorance which doesn’t excuse his behavior and demeanor. I don’t understand why he still receives pay from the school district other than the case in still under investigation.This teacher should never be allowed to teach children again due to his mean spirited and discrimitory views that demean and ridicule African Americans.
I ask this question. Prior to those racist rants and crazy sick behavior by that White fool, were the parents participating in their school`s PTA meetings and programs and monitoring the academic progress of their school kids and protecting their welfare by being aware of what was going on at that school….?? Why did the parents wait so long for some action to be taken. When the school did nothing the first time to address the complaint. The parents should have gone public, contacted the local NAACP, the local politicans, the media, the mayor`s office, held a protest, boycott the school, etc,…Why a lawsuit now..???? And where were the strong Blackmen when they were needed to “talk” to that particular teacher………
